A New Contender in the Neo-Classic Market

Mahindra and Mahindra-backed Classic Legends is setting its sights on the top position in the neo-classic motorcycle segment with the launch of the Jawa 42FJ. Anupam Thareja, co-founder of Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles, shared this exciting development with reporters on Tuesday.

Expanding the Portfolio

Since its inception in 2018, Classic Legends has expanded its portfolio to include brands such as BSA, Jawa, and Yezdi motorcycles. The launch of the 42FJ marks the company's 10th motorcycle model. This new addition follows the recent unveiling of the BSA Goldstar 650, priced at Rs 2.99 lakh.

Thareja expressed optimism about the neo-classic segment, stating, "This is the segment which will grow the fastest." To support this growth, Classic Legends plans to add 100 new touchpoints for Jawa motorcycles, further expanding its reach.

Strategic Growth and Global Expansion

Classic Legends is not only focusing on the domestic market but also ramping up its global presence. Thareja detailed the company's export strategy, highlighting that BSA motorcycles are currently sold in 23 countries, including the UK, various European nations, the Philippines, and soon in Japan, the USA, New Zealand, and Australia. BSA Goldstar has already earned accolades, including Motorcycle of the Year in the UK.

Jawa motorcycles, distributed through Jawa Czech Republic, are available in 19 countries. Thareja explained that the Czech Republic acts as a master distributor, selling Jawa bikes in Russia and surrounding regions.

Investment and Future Plans

Mahindra & Mahindra, which holds a 60% stake in Classic Legends, has invested Rs 1,000 crore in the company. Of this amount, Rs 350 crore has been utilized, with the remaining funds allocated for scaling up production and investing in research and development over the coming months. Mahindra has identified Classic Legends as a key growth asset within its portfolio.

Looking Ahead

The launch of the Jawa 42FJ is a strategic move for Classic Legends as it aims to establish itself as a leading player in the neo-classic motorcycle segment. With an expanded product portfolio, aggressive domestic and international growth plans, and substantial investment, the company is well-positioned to make a significant impact on the market.
